OKLAHOMA CITY - Last year, Austin Meier and his
wife Kristen built their dream home.
Friday afternoon, he and three other top professional bull riders
- Ryan Dirteater, Luke Snyder and Colby
Yates - helped a local family realize its dream of owning
a home.
The four riders volunteered three hours of their time Friday
afternoon to the Oklahoma City chapter of Habitat for
Humanity.
"It's definitely different than just a day on the job," said
Meier, who also volunteered a year ago. "It's a great opportunity
to give back."

"I really enjoyed it and it was for a good cause," Dirteater said.
"I got out there and went to work."
They helped frame in the house, and put in insulation so the crew
could close in the walls.
Yates said that despite the less-than-desirable weather, he was
surprised by how quickly the framework went up.
At one point, Dirteater was armed with a nail gun.
"We worked for a few hours out there, and it was cold," he said.
"The weather wasn't too good, but it wasn't about that. It was
about helping others."

The highlight for Dirteater and Meier was getting to meet the
family.
"It was neat because you get to see the look in their eyes," Meier
said. "There's the excitement of getting to meet a couple of bull
riders, but the real excitement is watching their house get
built."
"Getting to see them and see their faces out there … see everyone
working to build them a home … it makes you feel good," Dirteater
said. "They were full of joy and excited."
Meier added, "It puts into perspective what your life is and what
you're able to do for somebody else. It just makes you think about
things."

All four of the PBR representatives were inspired by the
relentless work ethic of the 20-some volunteers on the crew.
Despite temperatures in the low 30s and constant wind, everyone
banned together.
"They were there to get the work done," Yates said.
Meier recalled that the last time he volunteered, it was snowing,
so they framed the walls of a home inside a local warehouse.
"It was brutally cold and I was not dressed for it," said Meier,
who considers himself blessed to be able to compete in the PBR when
others are struggling to have homes of their own.
"We're traveling around the world getting to do what we love, and
there are people out there who need a home," added Dirteater.
"We're just blessed to be able to do what we're doing with the PBR,
and being able to go out and help when we can is an honor.
"I'd like to do it again sometime."
